Statement of Priorities

PRIORITY EIGHT:
Subject to the FACTORS FOR DETERMINING ACCEPTANCE OF CASES (footnoted on page 4*), provide individual representation to clients in the following areas:

A. SAFETY

• 1. Represent persons contesting a guardianship, a petition for guardianship, the scope of a guardianship, or the appointment of a particular person as a guardian.
• 2. Represent persons alleged to be unable to give informed consent prior to medical treatment or procedures.
• 3. Represent students who have been abused or neglected in a school setting, including the criminalization of disability-related behavior.

B. CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH AND EDUCATION

• 1. Represent children and youth who are detained inappropriately in hospitals or other restrictive environments or who are at imminent risk of such a placement due to a lack of appropriate community-based behavioral/mental health services.
• 2. Represent students who have been excluded from school without an appropriate plan for their return.
• 3. Represent students whose current or proposed educational placement is not in the least restrictive environment appropriate to meet the student's individual needs.
• 4. Represent students who are not provided appropriate school-to-adult transition planning and services.
